Deepika Padukone gets addicted to card game on plane

Deepika Padukone
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has become so addicted to the card game Mendicot that she along with the team of the new film Karthik Calling Karthik continued to play it on a commercial flight, even as other passengers tried to sleep.

The team was to fly back to Mumbai from Jaipur on a private jet. But the pilot informed the team that they couldn't head for Mumbai due to a cyclone that was to hit the city.

"We had to return on Monday night because many of us had to leave for Dubai for the premiere on on Tuesday morning. So from Jaipur to Mumbai we all booked ourselves into the economy class of a commercial airline."

What could've turned out to be a nightmare turned out to be a joyride for Deepika and her team and perhaps not such a pleasurable experience for the other late-fliers on board.

"We had blocked a whole row and instead of sleeping after a super-hectic day we started playing Mendicot. We forgot we were in a commercial flight. So we were yelling and screaming in excitement while the rest of the passengers were trying to sleep."

And now, for the first time in her life Deepika is seriously addicted. "I can't stop playing Mendicot. Ritesh and Farhan introduced me and director Vijay Lalwani to the game. When we took off on Sunday from Mumbai on our private jet the first thing Farhan and Ritesh did was to teach us this game. I've become addicted."

Deepika Padukone refuses to reconcile with Ranbir

deepika 14
Bollywood couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone parted ways a few months ago. But the latest we hear is that Ranbir is trying to get back Deepika into his life. Sadly, the actress is not in the mood to give in to his plea of reconciliation.

It is reported that Ranbir has been making frantic calls to Deepika ever since the news of her alleged relationship with Shahid Kapoor broke out. He has been sms-ing her and their mutual friends if the the rumours are true. But the pity is that Deepika is not in the mood to rekindle past affair.

Meanwhile, it is said that Shahid and Priyanka Chopra are desperately trying to get back to each other! Doubt if the news of Ranbir and Deepika is just a publicity stunt for Karthik Calling Karthik, which is releasing tomorrow.

Deepika soaked in romance

deepika padukone_09-p_1024x768
Deepika Pandukone recently looked very much a blushing girlfriend when quizzed about her romance with Kaminey actor Shahid Kapoor.

Questioned during her promotions for her upcoming film
'Karthik calling Karthik', the actress who is super silent these days, smarty evaded answering anything that centered on her relationship status.

Deepika's brewing friendship with Shahid
Labeled one of the sexiest actress’ in Bollywood, Deepika is now stressfully juggling between movies and her relationship.

When asked about her special friendship with Shahid Kapoor, her dulcet voice took a tinge of irritation as she conveyed that the more she opened up and spoke the truth, the press still continued to write whatever they wanted about it.

However she gracefully squashed the rumor stating that, “I have decided to keep my mouth shut and not say anything at all. If speculation is the name of the game, then let the media speculate as much as they want.”

When asked about her relationship status with Ranbir (since it has been reported by some sections of the media that they are vying to patch up), the actress just grinned and responded, “No comment”.

Nevertheless her new silent persona didn’t stop her from stating who will be ideal her date this Valentine’s day.

The sexy actress when quizzed recently only said that now since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have split, she’d want to date Pitt.

Deepika and Shahid not together
Shahid’s father, Pankaj Kapoor, had recently roped in Sonam Kapoor for their home production Mausam.

However there are rumors buzzing in tinsel town that Shahid and Deepika who are trying to unload the emotional baggage of their past relationships and are seen together at pubs and each other’s house.

Whether there is truth or not, reports also state that Shahid was in Deepika’s neighborhood only to visit filmmaker Kunal Kohli, which could have been misinterpreted, making it convenient to allege that they were meeting up secretly.

Incidentally it was a social networking site that started this whole controversy about how Deepika should get together with Shahid for a movie, which should be directed by Karan Johar.

Conceivably all this could have swirled up to turn another romantic development.

Deepika narrates her Love Aaj Kal story

Deepika Padukone
Download posters : Bollywood Actress
Deepika Padukone[^] is apparently hurt that her co-star and the producer of Love Aaj Kal, Saif Ali Khan[^] , has been stating in his interviews saying he wishes his lady-love Kareena Kapoor[^] was in the film instead of Deepika, sending wrong signals about his leading lady, and about his home production.

But the actress puts up a brave front, "I wouldn't like to comment on it as he's my producer. He's a great producer and a great co-star and I am happy that my director Imtiaz Ali wanted me to be there. I have gone according to his dictates. It's scary the kind of stuff Imtiaz has envisaged for my character in the film it's so close and similar to me. It's almost as if he had written the film with me in mind."

About Saif wanting Bebo in the film in stead of her, he said "He's in love and that's a good thing. I don't feel bad because I am confident about what I have done and I know he won't repent taking me in his film." Deepika is also involved with an actor and cannot ever consider asking a director to cast them together. However she understands that each couple is different and react to situations differently. The actress, who was last seen in Billu has returned from the land of the Incas (Peru) where she had gone on a photoshoot.

Deepika came back to India with a bad bout of flu. Though after some anxious moments, swine flu was ruled out. The actress skipped Shahrukh's party for Gerard Butler due to the illness but has been reporting for shooting for Farhan Akhtar's Karthik Calling Karthik every day in spite of the flu."

Deepika says, "Yes, I was a bit unwell but I didn't want to cancel the shoots. I missed Shahrukh's party because I was unwell and exhausted. I was shooting till 11 pm that night and had to report for shooting again the next day from 9 am again."

She says although people around her were concerned, she knew she hadn't caught the dreaded flu, "It started only after we had left Lima (in Peru)." Deepika is more disappointed that she couldn't visit Cuzco, the old capital of the Incas and other places as there was too little time. "I have never been to South America before and was hoping to see the Land of the Inca and Machu Picchu but there was too little time. I was in Lima for less than 48 hours."

Deepika, Asin come out as the latest B-town rivals

Mumbai, April 09: It’s always been evident that actresses do not really get along with each other in Bollywood. And most recently gorgeous Deepika Padukone and Asin were seen giving cold vibes to each other at the Pantaloons Femina Miss India contest recently.

The ladies reportedly did not exchange even so much as a ‘hi’ and didn’t even share a smile at the beauty contest, making their apparent rivalry evident.

The only thing they had in common during the event was that the organisers insisted that Deepika and Asin come up with one question each, only then did they ask questions from the contestants and that too during the swimsuit round.

Well, southern beauty Asin seems to have become a true competition for a lot of our B-town hotties!

Deepika Padukone's fringe hairstyle catches on

Deepika Padukone
Download posters : Bollywood Actress
New Delhi (IANS): In the 1960s, actor Sadhana styled her hair with a fringe and it became a craze. Now more than four decades later Deepika Padukone has rekindled the magic of this bygone hairstyle with her recently released movie "Chandni Chowk To China".

"Sporting a fringe will be the coolest thing of this year as the style is back in vogue. Fringe hides your age and makes you look younger. Fringe goes well for people who have a broad forehead - when fringes fall on their forehead, it gives a definite shape to their face cut," said stylist Mallika Bhat.

Bhat had styled Deepika's look for "Chandni Chowk To China". Though the film isn't doing well at the box office, Bhat says the fringe is a hit among young girls and they have already started copying the cut.

Fringes or horizontal bangs are a shaped cut of the front part of the hair so that it falls on the forehead. A typical fringe is cut fairly straight above the eyebrows.

Celebrity stylist Ryan D. Rozario says that there are different ways of cutting a fringe, depending on the face cut.

"Face cut plays an important role and oval-shaped face is the perfect face-cut for a fringe. But if you are not oval-faced then leave it to the stylist who can cut your fringes in such a way that it goes well with your face shape," Rozario told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Fringes that are expected to be popular this season are asymmetrical fringe that start away from the centre of the eyebrow and move diagonally across the face, heavy fringe that start from the ear and move across the face and side-swept fringe in which hair swoops across the forehead slightly covering one eye.

Javed Habib says hair texture plays an important role in deciding whether a person should go in for a fringe or not. He suggests people with fizzy hair should stay away from fringe.

"People with curly hair should stay away from this style as it will be an absolute disaster for them. Fringes are essentially meant for straight hair. If curly-haired people go for this style, it will be very difficult for them to maintain it," said Habib.

But stylist Sylvie didn't agree with Habib and said: "If a person with curly hair wants to go for them, she should get it done; all she needs is to do is to put some extra efforts like ironing the fringes or use a straightener."

Another stylist Samantha Kochhar suggested one should add a dash of colour on the fringe to make a style statement.

"One should go for solid colours to colour their bangs; it looks sexy and different, you can make a style statement with it," Kochhar said.

But there is a word of advice from Rozario for those who are ready to go for this ultra-chic look.

"You shouldn't try it before any major function or wedding as it might ruin your day if the style doesn't go well with your face. The cut just falls straight on your face and you cannot even hide it. So better try this cut in advance to escape any fashion disasters," Rozario said.

"Maintaining these fringes also requires time as they grow faster and require regular trimming," he added.

Deepika Padukone : ''Ranbir and I have discussed marriage'

Download posters : Deepika Padukone
She's just two films old — 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' — but already Bollywood is predicting that Deepika Padukone is going to be the next big thing on the silver screen. The lanky model from Bangalore has made people sit up and notice her. She's as much known for her personal life as she is for her professional progress, because Deepika is focused on whatever she does. Now, audiences are waiting to see how she shapes up in 'Chandni Chowk To China' opposite superstar Akshay Kumar...

How was last year, your first in Bollywood?
Deepika Padukone: Wonderful. I have learned and got so much in such a short time. My excitement and anxiety is the same as it was before my debut film. I think, even 15 years later, I will still have Friday night fever.

Like in 'OSO', you're playing a double role in 'Chandni Chowk To China'...
Deepika Padukone: Yeah, I play Meow — a sexy and brash girl, and Sakhi — who is very tacky with over-the-top makeup. They're contrasting personalities, but very interesting. That filmmakers believe I can carry off a double role so early in my career, is a huge boost for my confidence.

You learned martial arts for this film... serious stuff?
Deepika Padukone: I was always into sports so that helped me pick this up easily. I started training in jiujitsu six months before shooting. It was torturous in the beginning. But I think it's all paid off. I won't say I'm an expert, but yes, I can take care of myself. I can bajao and lagao with my fists and kicks!

Deepika on The Man and Elle

Deepika on The Man and Elle

Deepika Padukone needs no introduction for she is the girl par excellence who debuted in the smash hit flick Om Shanti Om, opposite none other than the King Khan himself! After OSO, Deepika was seen alongside beau Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseeno and despite being pitted against two haseenas, Deepika managed to stand her own. Now Deepika, who has been the face of countless brands, graces the cover of not one but two fashion and lifestyle magazines this month. While she is lending her pretty face to the latest edition of the famous lifestyle magazine The Man, Deepika is also seen strutting her stuff in the special anniversary issue of fashion magazine Elle.

In The Man, Deepika speaks about how she manages to stay fit despite such a hectic schedule (a must read for all the wannabe Deepikas). Not just that, she also shares some of her beauty tips with the readers (again, a must read for all the wannabe Deepikas). Besides all of this, she gives the readers the actual reasons for her to be associated with a million brands that she is endorsing (needless to say, that, this again, is a must read for all the wannabe Deepikas).

On the other hand Elle features Deepika in a shiny green silk and leather embellished dress, designed by Manish Arora. The special anniversary issue also gives a low down on Elle's 50 Most Stylish People and on the 100 top peoples, things, places and trends that shaped the year 2008.

Deepika surely knows what it means to be seen at the right place at the right time. After all, being the cover girl of two top fashion and lifestyle magazines, weeks before of the release of her next flick Chandni Chowk To China will surely get her all the attention she truly deserves. Way to go babe!!!

Deepika is ecstatic!

This was one happy turn of events that even Deepika Padukone might not have dreamt would happen to her.

It was just about a year ago that she was a ‘fresh face’ model at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. And on Day II, as she arrived to walk the ramp, she was a diva, a Bollywood actress now, and an A-lister at that! Just that morning, she was shooting for “Imtiaz Ali’s next. The shooting was at Qutub Minar. And no, it hasn’t been titled yet,” she says.

But not for a moment did Deepika show any signs of, to use the oft used phrase, ‘having arrived’. She was familiar with the layout of the backstage, and moved with ease between the greenroom and the make-up room backstage. And even as people jostled for her photographs, she smiled, and spoke to those whom she was familiar with, as if she was still one of them.

“I am,” she smiled, when asked how it felt to be on the top, so to say, now. “Everything is the same. The choreographers, the designers, the co-ordinators, and some of those who are backstage are the same too.”

But, now she’s a star... “No. That has made no difference. Everyone has been as warm and appreciative today as ever,” smiles Deepika, as the make-up person gives her eyelids a few deft strokes of dark shadow. “Everything is so exactly the same that I don’t feel the time lapse. When I came here, I felt as if the last one year hadn’t happened to me,” she adds. But she did rush for rehearsals.

Did she feel the need for practice now? “That was something I was very particular about even then. Last minute rehearsals are very important,” says Deepika. By now, it’s time. Deepika needs to get into the dress she has to walk the ramp in. Just how does it feel to be back on the ramp?

“I am excited. A bit nervous too,” she admits. “But, this is where I started, and I am sure I am going to enjoy coming back here again and again,” she says, minutes before she sails out on to the ramp, amidst thunderous applause.

Interview with Deepika Padukone

Yes I am getting my share of attention and quite a number of roles as well. But I have a long way to go and need to groom myself constantly to meet the expectations of my producers, directors and fans.

Don't you think that your success was assured the moment you signed your first film opposite the box office Badshah Shahrukh Khan?
I am really lucky that every thing fell in place perfectly in my very first step to Bollywood. Of course I will always remain indebted to director Farah Khan and Shahrukh for considering me for the film. But give me some credits as well (laughs).

In what ways have the film OM SHANTI OM affected your private life?
I am still to register all that has happened to me post OM SHANTI OM. The overnight fame, awards, millions of fan mails, interviews being taken, being called the 'Bollywood sensation'...all these is new to me. Despite being the daughter of badminton champ Prakash Padukone, and being a model for quite some time I was not used to so much media exposure and attention.

You too used to play badminton like your father. So why did you suddenly change the stream?
Initially I followed my father's footsteps and started playing badminton. Most people do not know that I even played badminton at the national level. But after sometime I realized that my heart is on modelling. But I never thought of becoming an actor at any point of my life. It was only from my second year in modelling that I started getting film offers. But I was only 18 then and decided not to jump into films till I am serious about it.

You are only 22. Don't you miss doing normal things a girl of your age does?
I moved out of home in Bangalore to work in Mumbai at a tender age. So that naturally has made me a lot more mature than my contemporary girls. But there is a price to be paid for every thing. I do normal things and have a life outside the studios as well

Ranbir Kapoor dumping Deepika?

Being a public figure isn't easy especially when you are registered on a community website.

And it becomes even more difficult when you happen to be the hottest face in Bollywood. Yes, life is tough for Ranbir Kapoor and it's only going to get tougher, following what went up on his Facebook account on April 23. On that day, at 3.10 am, the Saawariya hero changed his status message to read 'Ranbir Kapoor is dumping Deepika. Katrina is next on the list...'

On that day, at 3.10 am, the Saawariya hero changed his status message to read 'Ranbir Kapoor is dumping Deepika. Katrina is next on the list...'

Not only that, he changed his relationship status from 'It's complicated' to 'In an open relationship'.

At 10.59 am, there was a post from his sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, asking, "Have u gone mad?" And then, before one could do more than stop and stare, everything went back to the way it was.

The status message went blank and the relationship status changed back to 'It's complicated'. HT City tried to contact Ranbir Kapoor, but he was unavailable since he's shooting in Italy.

His sister Riddhima, however spoke on his behalf. "I noticed (the status change) but that's not the reason I wrote 'have u gone mad?'"

"I was replying to a message that he had sent to my inbox. However, I did see the tagline, but don't think he has written it - possibily someone got to know his password, hacked it and wrote it..." Whatever you say, Riddhima.

Move over Deepika?

Deepika Padukone received much fame after being paired with Shah Rukh Khan in her debut film Om Shanti Om.

And while she has gone places – from Chandni Chowk to China – there’s another newbie on the block, who’ll soon be trying to secure her place in B-Town.

A model yet again, Anushka Sharma is the fortunate girl to be roped into Aditya Chopra’s next film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The 19-year old from Bangalore has already floored Yash Chopra, the King of Romance and soft pastels. He tells us, “We were looking for someone who could truly embody the spirit of small town Punjab, and Anushka fits the bill.

She may have had no previous acting experience, but we have seen that unique spark in her. We’re confident that she’ll stand out even opposite Shah Rukh.” The film will go on floors on May 16 and hit the theatre screens on December 12. In a quick start-to-finish schedule, lets hope Rab has some big plans for Anushka. And that this is just the beginning!
