Lara Dutta: Following Bipasha’s Footsteps!

After having seen Bipasha’s dedication and passion, towards promoting healthy living and having an excersice regime through her special DVDS dedicated for the cause, there is good news for the public at large. It is now, actress Lara Dutta, who is planning to come out with her own set of DVDS, to promote healthy living.

Now, the point is, is it due to the fact that Lara has been very conscious of her own figure lately, and flaunts a very well toned body, as seen in her recent film, ‘Blue’ that she is keen on transferring the thought of exercising, amongst the general public? Or is it due to the effect of her current boyfriend Mahesh Bhupati, who is an Ace Tennis star of India? Or is it just for the sake of commercial interests? Well, whatever be the motive, one person who is not so pleased with this bright idea is our Bengali hot bod Bipasha Basu.

The grapevine is abuzz about the fact that Lara and her group of associates, are keeping their eyes, ears and brains open for any kind of information regarding Bipasha’s plans to launch her 2nd DVD, so as to be careful, in not to repeat the same things in Lara’s fitness program given on her DVD. But, this has not gone down well with Bips. It is reported that she has made it very clear that since a lot of hard work and passion had been put in by her to get the DVD out, she would wish that others who followed her footsteps would take care to do it with as much dedication, rather than just look into the commercial viability. Now, we wonder, what the sexy Lara would have to say to that one?

Vadapav for Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta had a good time when she went off for the Pune Film Festival. Lara is quite fond of the city in Maharashtra a few kilometres off Mumbai. After all this was the city which gave her the first title before she became Miss Universe. “I like Pune! it was good to be in the city albeit for a short time. I was crowned Miss India here. It has a good, young energy,” she says. And enroute to Pune, Lara did manage to catch up on some hot vada pav. “I had it with spicy chilli and coffee on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway! It was yummy!” she chirps.

An old rumour dating back to June 2001, is raising its head again and is likely to bring unwanted attention to Bollywood
hottie Lara Dutta who is already under media glare for her new relationship with tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi.

The story goes that way back in 2001, a year after India had two beauty pageant winners in Lara Dutta at the Miss Universe and Priyanka Chopra at Miss World, Golf Ace Tiger Woods
was dating one of them. The rumour was that our Lara Dutta, who was reportedly dating New York Yankees baseballer Derek Jeter, had also caught the eye of the greatest golfer in the world.

A US newspaper, in a story on Tiger, had the champion golfer denying he was dating “Miss Universe Lara Dutta of India — or trying to steal her from New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.” The Woods Foundation people, in fact, dismissed the story as being “Nothing more than gossip, probably put out by Dutta’s camp.” And Lara came back to India and fame in Bollywood.

But now that skeletons are tumbling out of Tiger’s woodwork, the gossip that he may have actually dated one of our Indian beauty queens is again gaining momentum. Suddenly Tiger’s denials that were taken very seriously eight years ago are now being re-examined. After all, he has turned out to be quite a champ off the greens. And has swung his club around in every direction!

She’s got a stunning figure with curves at all the right places. It’s confounding that Lara Dutta never cared to flaunt her perfect bikini bod, not until now.

In the upcoming aqua-adventure thriller Blue , Lara will be seen in itsy-bitsy swimwears. The credit for the effervescent bikini look of Lara in the movie goes to Hollywood make-up artist Nikoletta Skarlatos who gave the actress special water-resistant make-up so that she keeps looking fabulous and doesn’t lose her sheen while swimming underwater as normal make-up can’t stand salty sea water for long.

If ‘Blue’ is grabbing attention for Kylie Minogue and Katrina Kaif , do not forget that Lara is the main actress in the film, paired opposite Sanjay Dutt . And Lara has prepared quite hard to get into the skin of the character.

Donning the bikinis is the easy part. She has done some daring underwater stunts for which she learned scuba diving. However, it was her co-actor Akshay Kumar who helped her to get this plum role. Akki recommended Lara’s name to Anthony D’Souza, the director.

The movie is India’s first underwater thriller on the lines of international movies like ‘The Deep’ and ‘Jaws’. The characters are in search of a treasure, hidden in the depth of a sea.

And talking about bikinis, wearing one is not seen as a taboo anymore. The simple mantra is “if you have it, you flaunt it”. If Amisha Patel and Minissha Lamba strutted their stuff in the tiny swimwears in 2008, this year lissome beauties like Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Arora are taking the trend forward in Kambakkht Ishq .

Lara Dutta is one of the unsung beauties of Bollywood. Fiercely independent, this Mumbai beauty refuses to take walk-on parts; she has refused even Hollywood films for the same reason. The former Miss Universe and Miss Intercontinental was a super model before she debuted in films with 'Andaaz'. Her sensitive performance fetched her the Filmfare award for the Best Female Debut.

Lara has good comic timing as was seen in 'Partner' and 'No Entry'. She held her own against veterans in the game such as Govinda, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor.

She has an array of big releases coming up in 2009, including SRK-starrer 'Billu Barber', 'London Dreams', 'Blue' and Sudhir Mishra's 'Devdas'.

Lara Dutta : Lara replaces Tabu in Billo Barber

Director Priyadarshan admits he had written the female lead of his forthcoming Billo Barber with favourite actress Tabu in mind but had to settle for Lara Dutta instead due to date problems.

Priyadarshan and Tabu have done great work together in films like Viraasat and Kala Pani. The versatile actress even agreed to do an inconsequential role in Hera Pheri only for Priyadarshan's sake.

Billo Barber is being produced by superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Priyadarshan wanted Tabu to star in it. But after she opted out, Lara bagged the role.

Priyadarshan said, "It's a role of a full-on firebrand village girl. And it's patterned on Tabu's role in my Viraasat. I've to admit I think of Tabu for every female lead. But Lara is sensitive and strong enough to carry this role off with 幨an."

He said that Lara plays the wife of a barber, portrayed by Irrfan Khan. "Though the character belongs to a higher caste, she defies social norms and the diktats of the village to marry a barber. Lara's sophisticated image hasn't come in the way of her performance at all. She'll shock you," said Priyadarshan.

Shah Rukh also stars in Billo Barber, but not opposite Lara.

Said a source close to the project, "There was a certain amount of reservation about the part when Lara heard it was opposite Irrfan. Lara is extremely conscious of her co-stars' status. Earlier she had refused Anil Kapoor's Short Cut with Arshad Warsi.But the temptation of being in the same film with Shah Rukh prevailed. She had never been in any film with him and he's producing Billo Barber. She sees this as stepping stone to a film with Shah Rukh."

Earlier Lara had done a walk-on part in Fanaa and admitted she had done it to work with Aamir Khan and to gain an entry into Yash Raj Films. And very soon she got a full-fledged role in Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom with the illustrious banner.
