As is prevalent in Bollywood, Vidya Balan had a screening of her latest film, that is notorious for its raunchy content, for her parents and some close friends.

Apparently, the Balans loved the film. However, a fellow guest says that when Vidya locked lips with Arshad Warsi, her mother was seen moving self-consciously in her seat.

And even the actress was slightly uncomfortable that her parents were watching her screen lip-lock. But the movie itself is about much more than a mere kiss.

So, when the kissing was done, everyone got back to immersing themselves in the flow of the movie. But that moment of awkwardness did happen. Even the darkness in the auditorium couldn’t camouflage it.

Vidya Balan uses her sexuality as a tool

Before you get the wrong idea let us clear upfront that we are talking of Vidya Balan’s role in the film Ishqiya! The sizzling star, who plays a village belle in Abhishek Chaubey’s debut directorial venture Ishqiya, plays the role of a femme fatal that has been carved out painstakingly by the director only for her!

Discussing Vidya’s role at length, the director narrates, “Ishqiya started as a story of a woman, who has the power with her husband at night though all through the day she may slog. It took me a year to write the subject. I followed just what the script dictated as a writer and did not have any actor in mind when I was writing it. Ishqiya is the story of two criminals and a wily widow who lives on fragments in the periphery of the society and the plot functions like a thriller. We explore marital as well as extra-marital betrayal in love. Lust is just one element of the film.”


Umm… so what is basically Vidya’s role all about?

“Well the film has no social or political message. It is a film about finding love in the least expected of places. Emotional need leads us to search for people,” states the director.

And summing up his vision for Vidya’s role, he says, “It is a terrible truth that over the years, women have been subjugated and made to play an ornamental role in the male dominated society. In my film, my protagonist uses sexuality as a tool unabashedly.”

I will never wear a bikini: Vidya Balan

While her contemporaries Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta are flaunting their curves in bikinis, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is happy and comfortable in her favourite attire - the sari - and says she will never wear a bikini.

"I don't see myself in a bikini ever. I am very comfortable in my saris and other Indian attire. Even if the script demands, I don't think I will ever wear one," she said at a press conference in the Big Cinemas here Thursday.

Previously, Vidya had received a lot of flak for her dressing sense and plump body.

Taking all that criticism in a positive manner, the 30-year-old actress has slimmed drastically and is looking ravishing in her sleek avatar. She is seen wearing mostly saris at functions and promotional events.

"I have started loving the seedha palla (straight fall) of the sari. I am very comfortable in Indian attires and I guess I carry them off pretty well," she said.

Vidya Balan is looking good these days and for a good reason. The actress has lost around 10 kgs and is looking slimmer and fitter than ever.

Mine has been more of a mental struggle with weight. Earlier, I was obsessed with losing weight and if the results didn’t show up within the time frame I had set, I would give up,” she admits. Vidya credits her weight loss to her attitude that’s undergone a major makeover. She says, “The day I changed my attitude, exercise became less about weight loss and more about keeping fit.” So, is she going to join the size-zero bandwagon? “No way!” she exclaims. “Being fit is good. I don’t like it when everyone starts looking alike. I think we should celebrate being different. One shouldn’t follow something because it suits someone else. I would want to be fit, but then I also want people to accept me the way I am. Look at Salma Hayek... she is not the thinnest, but she is among the hottest. Personally speaking, what appeals to me is the Indian figure. It’s fantastic to experiment, but you need to maintain your style.”

Copying others doesn’t seem to be Vidya’s cup of tea, but does the actress know that a search for Vidya Balan on a networking site shows three results. Three people claiming to be the real ‘Vidya Balan’. Not just that, they even have other celebs on their friends list. Now, we don’t know if those celebs are for real, but Vidya sure was surprised to know that she has an online profile. With info about her family, friends, hobbies and interests all available for public consumption, it’s difficult to believe that it’s not her. “It’s definitely not me. If people think they are chatting with me then someone’s fooling them,” she says. The actress does want to get in touch with her fans online, but she has yet to find time for that. “When I do that, I’ll let everyone know. It’ll be a great way to keep in touch with my audience,” she says.

The actress did have some trouble keeping in touch with her family recently as she was shooting in Wai for Vishal Bharadwaj’s Ishqiya. With no network, the actress enjoyed her stint away from the media glare. “If you ask me, I’ll say that after Parineeta, I have really worked hard on this project. I was away from everything. We were cut off from everything. And that’s actually great for an actor. When you are in Mumbai, there are things that are constantly on your mind. But when you are cut off, you can focus on one thing. Cinema’s all consuming. This kind of an environment is perfect to let cinema consume you.” But doesn’t she miss being away from Mumbai? “Not at all. I love being cut off,” she says.

It’s a story that has been told umpteen times, but apparently Vidya Balan is still not getting the message.

Vidya Balan is not getting the semantics of dressing right. To gauge public reaction to her film Kismat Konnection, the actress caught an afternoon show in a Mumbai suburban multiplex. While she was applauded for her acting, it was her pairing with a much younger looking Shahid and her clothes that received a lot of flak.

With her classical face and Indian body structure, Vidya should stick to sarees or casual attire, designers opine. But is Vidya listening?

It was a busy day for Vidya Balan. Her day out with Radio Mirchi in Delhi recently was jammed with events.

And, she had a long queue of media people waiting. But the spunky lass took it all in her high-heeled stride. She even took out time to change her outfit for us.

"I've got to rush. I have a flight to catch in the evening," she told us. Which reminded us of something we'd heard about her. Did she actually forget her passport at home recently, as the rumour suggested, and realise she had done so only at the airport? "Yes," laughed Vidya. "I hate to say this, but I have always been pampered.

I have always been taken care of." Is that so? "Absolutely. Everyone in my entourage dotes on me. I don't have to do a thing, everything is taken care of by them."

So then, how did she forget the passport? "Well," out comes a sheepish smile, "I had to go on a personal trip. So, I told everyone that I shall take care of everything, so that they can all relax. And look what I did. I called my maid, who then came all the way to the airport with my passport. That too, with just a few minutes to spare for the boarding time."

Koi baat nahin, all's well that ends well, Vidya!

Vidya Balan : Vidya wants more of Shahid

Surely, there can't be smoke without fire. News has been doing the rounds for quite sometime now that Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan are an item. And they are linking the duo not without clue. The truth is that they share a very strong rapport and enjoy each other's company.

The relationship between the duo seems to have grown stronger after acting together in the film Kismat Konnection. This time around, Vidya has openly expressed her liking for Shahid by declaring that she would love to work with him again. She added that the comfort level and chemistry they share is wonderful.

Vidya Balan : Vidya’s perfect for Shahid

There was a lot of talk about Shahid and Vidya Balan and now both the actors are fed up. They are exhausted explaining to their fans that there’s nothing between them, just friendship. And one of the reasons of them being paired up was the Bebo-Shahid split, followed by their shooting for Kismat Konnection , which was then going on in Canada.

Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan have been cast together for the first time. But what was so surprising about this pair? The answer was obvious as Vidya is elder than the 26 year old Shahid. Hence, everybody was a bit skeptical about the pairing. Shahid says “Yeah people were skeptical about how Vidya and I’ll look together. But the way the film has turned out it’s all good. It has been cast according to its requirement and I think that is the strength of the movie.”

Though there was lot of talk about Shahid and Vidya, it failed to change the rapport between them. According to Shahid, “Vidya is a talented and hardworking costar”. When asked about the memorable incidents happened on the set, Shahid regaled us about their first day on the shoot. He reminisces, “We spent 50 days together and became very good friends. We didn’t have much of a choice. There were few things that happened when we were shooting together. Everybody was nervous on the first day of shoot but Vidya broke the ice first when she just walked up to me and said “Can I have your autograph please.” and we all started laughing.”

Coming back to his pairing with Shahid with Vidya, he feels everything depends on the script and characters. If characters are good then other things don’t matter. “I think if the script and characters is good, people will like film. They liked my character and my pairing with Kareena in Jab We Met. Same with Kismat Konnection, people will like our characters and our pairing too.” He signs off

Vidya Balan cares about the environment

Vidya Balan has not been much in the news since her last release Halla Bol in January this year. The talented actress has been quite a regular on the endorsement front and is seen often on T.V. along with South star Madhavan in the Airtel commercials.

On the eve of World Environment Day, Vidya Balan was present at a tree plantation drive held by Lanxess India along with the 'Save The Children India' organization. They planted over 100 samplings in an initiative to increase the green cover and stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment. Indeed a noble gesture on the beautiful actresses' part.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Vidya Balan has recently signed on with Bling! Entertainment Solutions, a leading talent and celebrity management company in India founded by Atul Kasbekar. Bling! Entertainment Solutions shall now handle all the endorsement deals of the actor as well as protect her long term interests.

The promos of Vidya's next big release Kismat Konnection opposite Shahid Kapoor are already generating a lot of curiosity. Looks like Vidya indeed has a lot of reasons to flaunt that million dollar smile of hers.

Abhishek, Vidya Balan paired in Balki's Pa

Having got masterly performances out of Tabu and the Big B in Cheeni Kum, director R. Balakrishnan may be expected to recreate the same magic in his next feature film. But he is on a different track in his second directorial venture titled Pa.

Pa features father-son Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, but no Tabu. "But that's because Pa has no room for Tabu at all. This time the story is a father-son one. Amitabh has no love interest in the film and I am sorry about that. Abhishek does have a girl though," Balakrishnan told IANS.

For the female lead, the director has roped in Vidya Balan - the first time that Abhishek is being paired with the lately out-of-sight Vidya. "We've already approached Vidya and she has more or less agreed. I can see her as a pair with Abhishek, can't you?"

Vidya comes into the picture through her sister Priya, who works with ad man Balakrishnan at Lintas.

"In fact, it's Priya I know well. I got to know Vidya only when we started talking for Pa," said the director, fondly called Balki.

After being paired with Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji and Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek is on the look out for fresh collaborative opportunities. Vidya is someone the Bachchans have admired from the time the Big B saw her in Parineeta and then worked with her in Eklavya - The Royal Guard.

The Big B had compared Vidya with his favourite actress Waheeda Rehman.

So is Balki looking at the prospect of directing a new pair?

"I don't look at it that way. Vidya suits the role. I've known her from her ad days. Though we haven't done any ad together she has done ads for my company Lintas."

Tanushree Dutta in an exclusive interview with Indiaglitz recently said that she is planning to take legal action against people who’ve posted her name and photograph on an Escorts web site. It seems another actress Vidya Balan may well have to do the same very soon.

It has been learnt that a sixty second steamy MMS clip of a lady having an amazingly close similarity with Vidya is doing the rounds on mobile phones in Chennai. It is being said that the MMS is most probably morphed but it is most certainly not good news for Vidya who is riding on the success wave post ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’.
