Riya Sen Trying To Lose Weight
Riya Sen, fresh from Heroes, is striking up controversy with her statement that she is trying to lose weight, having felt she'd put on a bit recently. “I’ve been size-zero all of my life," she says, "What’s the big deal about it?”
Riya has been showcased in the media as a goodtime girl, interested only in parties and events but she refutes this: "I know how to lead my life," she says, "I spend most of my time with my close friends and family. Whenever I am in Kolkata, I spend time with my parents and hardly attend parties or events. But the media has created this image. I really don’t know why."
Riya, who performed well in movies such as Tum Ho Naa and Shaadi No.1 is proud of her recent work as a village girl in Rituparno Ghosh's movie Noukadubi. "My work in Noukadubi is the best in my career. Rituparno is extremely happy with my performance. This kind of work gives me the opportunity to reinvent myself. I have to relate to that village girl, portray her feelings and identify with her lifestyle."
However, Riya does not see herself as making a permanent return to Kollywood and has two interesting Bollywood projects lined up. There's Subhash Ghai's Char Yaar with an all-star case including Neha Dhupia, Sayali Bhagat, Celina Jaitley and Aashish Chaudhary. Then this is scheduled to be followed by Krrish 2 with Hrithik Roshan and Rekha.

Riya Sen: Shoes it away!
Riya Sen had the time of her life performing for a live audience in Hong Kong. And it’s always special when you share stage with the handsome na?
Anyway, she was in Hong Kong with Akki for a show, and she considered it to be a good change after shooting non-stop for her Bengali flick Nauka Dubi in Kolkata.
However, before going to Hong Kong the girl made it a point to stop at Dubai, where she went on a shopping spree. “I’m addicted to shoe-shopping. And indulged in it while I was in Dubai. It was therapeutic,” she told us, “I guess I even danced better!” Now that’s what we call a ‘sole’ performer.

Riya Sen doesn't like mini skirts
Despite scorching up the ramp in one recently during the Wills India Fashion Week, Riya Sen says she doesn’t like wearing minis: “I am very fussy about my clothes and very moody as well. One will never catch me in a mini-skirt just like that,” she explains.
Riya is currently looking forward to appearing with her sister, Raima Sen, in an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Nauka Dubi. It was Riya who brought the Bengali project together under the direction of Rituparno Ghosh. In the original story, the sisters’ characters would not appear together but the story has been re-written slightly to accommodate this. "There's no way the audience will accept me and my sister in the same movie without having scenes together,” says Raima, “In the original story our characters don't come together at all. But Riya and I have to come face to face in our first film together." For the movie, Riya has been chewing paan in order to get the authentic reddened teeth and mouth that the character requires.
Riya plays a college girl in Heroes and has previously appeared in Jhankar Beats, Shaadi No.1 and was most noticeable doing an item number in Heyy Babyy! She is trained in kathak dancing, kickboxing and belly dancing and was recently linked with Booker prizewinning author Salman Rushdie.
She has a number of interesting roles in motion including Dev Anand’s Chargesheet in which she appears in a very glamorous avatar, Kya Fool Hain Hum which co-stars Govinda and Ranvir Shorey and is a comedy. Finally in Paying Guest, Riya plays a whingeing, whiny cry baby. “My character is so whiny that if I were a guy I would never date a girl like that!” she exclaims.

Riya Sen dropped from 'The Bong Connection'
It seems the Sen sister combination of Riya and Raima is not destined to happen. It's final now! Riya Sen is out of 'The Bong Connection'.Riya, who had re-entered the film (because she could not adjust the dates she had given to Subhash Ghai's film) and made an appearance at the press conference in Kolkata on January 27th, has now been dropped from the project.
Producer Joy Ganguly revealed, "Soon after the conference, Riya shocked us by saying that we should push her dates with us further. We wanted to shoot with her in the US from March 23rd and the entire logistics including the combination dates with other actors, had been worked out."
"She wanted us to shoot with her starting on March 28th because she had to shoot for Mukta Arts Sapna Apna Money Money on those five days. I cannot push the shooting any further. Actually, I was supposed to start with her on March 15th and because of her Mukta Arts commitment, she had promised that she would start on March 23rd. What is the guarantee that she will shoot from March 28th onwards?"
Ganguly says that the production unit called her to inform her that they would have to drop her.
"Riya sent back a message to the director Anjan Dutt and the executive producer Arindam saying that it was okay."
So who will play Riya's role now? "We are zeroing down on a name very soon, but one thing is clear, I need someone who can speak Bengali," the producer says.
Produced under the banner Moxie India, 'The Bong Connection' is 75 per cent in English and the rest in Bengali.
When contacted, Riya said, "Yes, I am not doing 'The Bong Connection'. Mukta Arts is my first priority. And I think I can shoot for 'The Bong Connection' starting on March 26th. If they (Moxie India) cannot adjust the dates for two days, it's their loss."
Ganguly shot back, "We are not at a loss. And I wish her the very best in her future endeavors.
'The Bong Connection' stars Raima Sen, Victor Banerjee, Shayan Munshi and newcomer Param Datta. It is based on the lives of Bengalis living in India, as well as abroad.
