No questions about Bigg Boss please,” says Payal Rohatgi, who is now looking forward to her movie Dil Kabaddi, which she completed before entering Bigg Boss.
“The reality show has given me visibility, credibility and popularity. But my movie, Dil Kabaddi, will take me one step further in Bollywood,” she says. In the movie, Payal plays a yoga instructor who’s Irrfan Khan’s second love. “It’s a marital comedy that dwells on urban relationships. In the movie, Irrfan is married to Soha Ali Khan and is bored with his married life. So, he ends up looking for physical intimacy from me,” she says.
It’s all very well to put a funny spin on a sensitive issue, but what’s her take on extra-marital affairs? “Being a Scorpio, I believe in loyalty. But I’ve seen other people ending relationships within months. They don’t want to understand each other. In contrast, I’ve seen my naana and naani, who’ve been married for 50 years, though they come from different backgrounds. I think if somebody doesn’t have the time to work on a relationship, then they shouldn’t get into it,” she shares.
Payal says she had a great working relationship with her co-stars in Dil Kabaddi — Irrfan Khan, Rahul Bose, Konkana Sen Sharma, Soha Ali Khan and Rahul Khanna. Who did she share the best rapport with? “Everyone was equally cordial. I was dealing more with Irrfan Khan. He is a mature co-star. It was nothing like Bigg Boss in which there was bitching and abuse. But here, there was no rivalry,” she says.
She’s clearly enjoying the way her career is shaping up after six years of struggle. This actress, who’s a qualified computer engineer, wants to concentrate on her work for the next five to seven years. “Bigg Boss gave me immense popularity and with the movie releasing at the right time, people can connect with me better. It’s high time my graph moved up,” she says.
While she wants to focus on her acting, there are catty comments that she’s fake in real life. “What makes them think I’m like that? Just because I’m quiet that doesn’t mean I’m fake and artificial. I choose to speak when I want to. I can’t speak to every barking dog on the road!” she says.
Apart from being diplomatic, she’s also known as a mama’s girl. Her mother is the ultimate decision-maker in her life. “Yes, I’m mama’s girl and she’s my world. She has slogged as a teacher and has seen the difficulties of marriage. She’s a strong woman who gave both her children a good education. Today she’s everything to me,” she concludes.
